A Thief River Falls man has been charged in Pennington County District Court after he allegedly punched his wife, causing her to lose consciousness. The woman regained consciousness to Billy Joe Contreras performing CPR on her.
Contreras, 34, has been charged with felony third-degree assault and misdemeanor domestic assault.
He was arrested.
The charges stemmed from a report to the police at 11:46 a.m. Friday. The woman reported that a night earlier, Contreras had invited a male friend to their home to drink wine and watch a movie. The friend left around 10:30 p.m.
The woman told a police sergeant that Contreras was allegedly mad because he thought she was looking and smiling at the friend. He then hit her in the head, causing her to lose consciousness. She regained consciousness to Contreras performing CPR on her. He then took her to their apartment balcony in order for her to breathe fresh air. She told the sergeant that Contreras had taken her phone away, so she was unable to report the incident at that time.
After Contreras left the apartment the following morning, the woman called 911.
Contreras allegedly told the investigator that he was the real victim. The investigator “declined to take a statement from Contreras because he was convinced that [the investigator] was a racist because of his brown skin and numerous tattoos,” according to the complaint.
