Around 8:00 p.m., a report came in of about 13 cars northbound near Hillsboro. The vehicles were clocked at speeds over 100 mph.
A North Dakota Highway Patrol trooper told TRF News a car event was held in Fargo Friday and Saturday. He said this group may have been heading back toward Grand Forks afterward.
Details are still limited. The trooper said two motorists were stopped by Traill County deputies. Both drivers were ticketed at the scene.
The trooper said similar caravans have happened before after large car meets. He added that some groups use spotters to warn others.
He stressed that this kind of speeding puts everyone at risk. High speeds cut reaction time and raise crash severity.
Deputies continued patrols along I-29 following the call. No crashes linked to the convoy were reported Saturday night.
Authorities did not release vehicle makes or plate numbers. They did not identify the drivers who were cited.
It is not yet clear if more citations will follow. Investigators will review any dashcam or witness videos that surface.
Drivers who saw the convoy can share tips with local law enforcement. You can also submit information to the North Dakota Highway Patrol.
Officials urge anyone leaving car events to slow down and split up. They say keep a safe gap and obey posted limits.
TRF News will post updates if more tickets are confirmed or if charges are filed.
