Trail County, ND (trfnews.i234.me) — A devastating weather event struck near Galesburg, toppling hundreds of train cars across miles of railroad track both north and south of town. According to the National Weather Service in Grand Forks, a 112 mph wind gust roared through the area late Friday night, causing widespread rail damage.
Observers at the scene report that rail cars, many of them green and possibly empty, were blown off the tracks for up to 3 miles south and 2 miles north of Galesburg. The visual stretch of toppled railcars is described as nearly endless, signaling a cleanup operation of massive scale.
The damage covers a multi-mile radius, making it one of the most significant rail-related wind disasters in recent North Dakota history. No injuries have been reported so far, but full assessments are ongoing.
