BILLINGS, MT (trfnews.i234.me) – The body of missing Twin Cities hiker Dylan Honnoll was recovered by a helicopter crew on Wednesday in the Beartooth Mountains of south-central Montana. Honnoll, who had been missing since July 12, was found fully submerged in East Rosebud Creek, a day after ground search teams located his body. The 20-year-old fell into the creek’s rapids while attempting to cross it during a hike on the Beaten Path trail, according to Red Lodge Fire Rescue.
Honnoll, a recent graduate of Rogers High School and sophomore at Montana State University in Bozeman, faced challenging conditions that complicated the rescue efforts. Assistant Chief Jon Trapp praised the search and rescue team, stating, “Locating Dylan in the fast-moving water was very challenging. With the dedicated work of our Search and Rescue Team and help from many of our partners, we are honored to be able to help him return to his family.”
The Carbon County Sheriff’s Department is coordinating the return of Honnoll’s body to his family in Minnesota. Honnoll’s mother expressed her gratitude on Facebook, acknowledging the efforts of the rescue team and the supportive community of Red Lodge. “The community of people in Red Lodge are the best kind of people you will ever meet,” she wrote. “Now Dylan can rest in peace.”
