On Saturday afternoon, the Gilbert Police Department responded to reports of an injured skier at Giants Ridge Ski Resort. Ski patrol staff successfully extracted the 21-year-old male from the hillside. He was transported by the Biwabik Ambulance Service to Essentia Health-Northern Pines Medical Center in Aurora. Despite all life-saving measures attempted, he was pronounced dead at the hospital. The victim’s name is being withheld pending family notification.

The Gilbert Police Department, with assistance from the Giants Ridge Ski Patrol, is conducting an investigation into the incident. Details regarding the cause of the accident have not been released.
