MINNEAPOLIS, MN (trfnews.i234.me) – The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA) has identified Mustafa Ahmed Mohamed, 35, as the gunman who killed Minneapolis police officer Jamal Mitchell on Thursday, May 30. The 36-year-old officer was fatally shot while responding to a shooting report.
Mohamed also died in the gunfire, with the Hennepin County Medical Examiner confirming he succumbed to multiple gunshot wounds. Both men were shot in front of an apartment building at 2109 Blaisdell Ave. A third person, Osman Said Jimale, 32, was killed inside an apartment one block away. Four others, including another officer and a firefighter, were injured.
The chaotic scene unfolded as Mitchell, responding to a double shooting near 22nd Street and Blaisdell Avenue, was ambushed and shot while aiding an injured person. Mitchell is the first MPD officer fatally shot in the line of duty in over 20 years.
Memorial arrangements for Mitchell are pending, and a verified donation platform to support his family has been established by local police organizations.
