Hubbard County (trfnews.i234.me) – A tragic early-morning accident claimed the life of a 21-year-old man at Lake Belle Taine near Nevis, Minnesota, on Saturday, July 19, 2025.
According to the Hubbard County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were dispatched around 2:23 a.m. to the lake’s public swimming beach after receiving a report of a possible drowning. While first responders were en route, dispatchers were informed that bystanders had begun performing CPR.
When deputies arrived, they found multiple people attempting life-saving measures on the victim, identified as Aiden Thompson of Nevis. Emergency personnel assisted until North Ambulance arrived, but tragically, Thompson was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators say Thompson had been swimming with a group during the early morning hours. As others exited the water, one individual jumped off the dock and discovered Thompson floating face-down nearby.
An autopsy conducted later revealed that Thompson died from a cervical spine fracture. The sheriff’s office has not released further information about how the fatal injury may have occurred, and the incident remains under investigation.
