Felony fourth-degree controlled substance crime – sale and gross misdemeanor fifth-degree controlled substance crime

On Aug. 2 at about 4:20 p.m., a corrections officer received a note from an inmate that another inmate, Clarice Elizabeth Sorenson, was allegedly “cheeking” her medication and giving it to other inmates in her pod. The inmate didn’t tell him which inmates were receiving the medication. About an hour later, correctional officers received an anonymous tip regarding “misuse of medication” in the pod. Three inmates were locked down since suboxone was found in a cell occupied by Kendra Leigh Goose and a third inmate. A piece of paper from Sorenson’s cell contained pink stains, indicating a wet suboxone pill had been placed on it. Sorenson, 43, St. Paul, has been charged with felony fourth-degree controlled substance crime – sale. Goose, 28, Cass Lake, has been charged with gross misdemeanor fifth-degree controlled substance crime. Sorenson remains incarcerated at the Pennington County Jail. Goose was transported back to the Beltrami County Jail as a result of this incident. She is no longer in custody there, according to the online jail roster. Sorenson was the only inmate prescribed suboxone. She allegedly “admitted placing her suboxone in her cheek when she received it and then giving it to Goose.” Sorenson said Goose told Sorenson that her back was bothering her and Tylenol wasn’t helping. Sorenson said she had given “just a little bit” to Goose this one time. Goose requested to speak with an attorney before speaking with a Pine to Prairie Drug Task Force agent.

Theft

On Aug. 13 at about 5:33 p.m., dispatch received a call regarding a bicyclist riding in and out of traffic, smacking mailboxes, and flipping off motorists. The caller reported the woman had placed her bicycle in some bushes in the Walmart parking lot and then walked into the garden section of Walmart. Samantha Jo Sheridan, 35, Thief River Falls, has been charged with gross misdemeanor fifth-degree controlled substance crime – over 0.25 grams, theft, and obstructing the legal process. She was arrested. A police sergeant located the bicycle with a full backpack on top of it. An officer called a Walmart asset protection employee, informing her about the woman. According to the complaint, the employee was able to provide police with a picture of the woman, who was allegedly identified as Sheridan. The employee said management wanted the backpack to be searched since it had been abandoned on the Walmart property and they didn’t know what it contained. The backpack contained 0.9 grams of methamphetamine as well as drug paraphernalia. Sheridan also allegedly left the store without paying for $369.68 worth of merchandise. The initial caller, who followed Sheridan into Walmart, reported Sheridan appeared to be high and had been ripping clothes off of hangers, tossing them into a cart, and leaving hangers on the ground. When an officer attempted to speak with Sheridan after she exited the store, she attempted to reenter Walmart. Sheridan resisted arrest and wouldn’t comply with the police when they were attempting to arrest her. She also knocked an officer’s body-worn camera off of his chest. Sheridan continued to resist arrest as police officers attempted to place her in the squad vehicle. The next day, Sheridan allegedly told police that she didn’t really remember what had happened at the store. However, she recalled traveling there with her bicycle and backpack. Sheridan didn’t know why she left the store with merchandise for which she hadn’t paid.
