Thief River Falls, MN (trfnews.i234.me) – On July 6 at 5:38 p.m., police received a report of counterfeit money at C’Mon Inn in Thief River Falls. John Charles Isleman, 31, has been cited for theft following the discovery of counterfeit bills.
According to the citation, an employee initially found a counterfeit $5 bill in the till on June 26 and thought it was a joke. However, another counterfeit $5 bill was found on July 5, prompting a review of security camera footage. The footage allegedly showed Isleman accessing the till during his shift, even though he claimed no cash transactions occurred. Isleman was also seen throwing paper into the trash, where counterfeit money was later discovered.
Further investigation revealed a counterfeit $20 bill and another $5 bill in an unoccupied hotel room that had not yet been cleaned. Isleman denied taking money or placing counterfeit bills in the till but allegedly admitted to printing, cutting, and discarding counterfeit money. Security footage from June 25 and 26 showed him cutting out counterfeit bills and marking one before leaving his workstation. Later, Isleman was seen retrieving his wallet and going to the till. At least one of the found counterfeit bills had a pen mark on it.
