Thief River Falls Man Arrested in Probation Check: Meth Found, Children Present

On August 7, a routine probation check led to the arrest of Brian Allen Torkelson, 33, of Thief River Falls, on serious drug-related charges. Officers from the Pine to Prairie Drug Task Force, along with Thief River Falls police sergeants, were called to assist after receiving information that Torkelson was passed out on a couch with hypodermic needles protruding from his pocket.

Upon entering the residence at 130 Snetting Dr., officers found Torkelson appearing under the influence of drugs or alcohol. A search revealed two hypodermic needles, a contact lens case containing wetted cotton balls, and a small bag of crystal-like substance that tested positive for methamphetamine. The total weight of the meth, including its packaging, was 0.6 grams.

Disturbingly, two young children, ages 5 and 10, were present in the home. Torkelson has been charged with felony fifth-degree controlled substance crime, felony meth-related crime involving children, and a probation violation. The formal complaint was filed on August 14.
