ZAP, ND (trfnews.i234.me) They’re holding a 50th Anniversary party of the Zip to Zap tonight! Back in 1969 the National Guard was called to bring the party to a close, after a couple thousand college students came to town to party.
the 50th anniversary of the zip to zap North Dakota is coming up May 11th and they’re planning another party back on the weekend of May 9th through the 11th in 1969 it was a party that got a bit out of control it was initially organized as a weekend getaway by an NDSU student but it turned into two or three thousand students descending on the tiny community and it got a little wild after the beer ran out the National Guard was called in to quell SH the only riot in North Dakota history well now today they’re planning on another party more in control on may 11th to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the zip does that well we’ve got a couple bands that are going to be here you know we’ve got one band Ricky Jake they’re gonna be playing from 4:00 to 8:00 and we’ve got another band flam Obama that’s going to be coming into the play the rest of the night we’ve got a 5k walk and run during the morning we got a car show some food vendors and fire departments putting on a little show with tusk you’ll see okay there will be some stuff for even kids to do so it’s kind of a don’t be stuff to do for pretty much all ages all right so I’m guessing you’re hoping it doesn’t turn into a 1969 and the National Guard is called Oh correct yes oh yeah it’s we are expecting a lot yes it’s it it seems like it’s really picking picking up pretty good you know the 30 and 4 youth was pretty good also them but I think we’re gonna have more people through this one okay all right and that again that’s May 11th correct yes run over here oh yes it does yep all day Saturday throughout the night all right so at any guess about how many folks you think you’ll get this well I wouldn’t be surprised if we see 15 under 2,000 people it really depends you know what we’re hoping for you’re going to get a lot of the people that were here we want to get some people that were here for the original one you know I don’t know what we’re going to see there and then you’re going to see a lot of people from around here too so we’re hoping for that much I think and get it okay I should be a good time okay enough steam it’s picking up a lot of steam that’s good to hear all right Carrie Barden the mayor of ZAP North Dakota thanks for talking to me all right take care all right thank you
