A taxi cab was stolen as the driver used the restroom Tuesday in Polk County.
According to the Fosston Police Department, Mardee Jones, (34) of Cass Lake was placed into custody and transported to NWRCC in Crookston.
Police were dispatched to Lepier’s East gas station just before 7 pm on a report of a stolen vehicle. According to the report the driver “went in to use the restroom and came back outside to discover his taxi had been stolen.”
Fosston police say that the “taxi was equipped with an active GPS and an active camera system.” The cab company was able to give live updates to police as to where the vehicle was located. With the assistance of the Bemidji Police Department, they were able to safely stop the stolen taxi in the Bemidji area.
Fosston Chief of Police Dustin Manecke says “Jones will be facing charges for the Theft of the Vehicle.”
