BISMARCK, ND (trfnews.i234.me) – A Bismarck man was arrested Thursday following a dramatic stand-off with police and a West Dakota SWAT team in the 1500 block of North 16th Street.
The incident began shortly after midnight when the 34-year-old man allegedly threatened to stab and assault a woman. He fled the residence before officers arrived and could not be located.
At around 7:15 p.m., police received reports that the suspect had returned to the apartment complex. When an officer attempted to contact him, the man slammed the door and barricaded himself inside, refusing to surrender.
The West Dakota SWAT team and Bismarck Police Unmanned Aerial Surveillance team were deployed to assist. Officers observed the suspect holding a knife and appearing to prepare to start a fire.
The SWAT team breached the apartment door, prompting the suspect to flee out a window. He was apprehended shortly after. The UAS team captured footage of the suspect discarding the knife into a bush, which was later recovered.
The man was taken to Burleigh Morton Detention Center and faces charges of Terrorizing, Preventing Arrest, and Refusal to Halt. He is scheduled for an initial court appearance this afternoon.
