Supreme Court’s Abortion Pill Ruling Raises Concerns Over Doctors’ Refusals

WASHINGTON DC (trfnews.i234.me.) – The U.S. Supreme Court has upheld access to the abortion medication mifepristone, but advocates at Gender Justice warn that the language in the ruling could allow doctors to refuse treatment on religious grounds. Jess Braverman, Legal Director at Gender Justice, expressed alarm, stating, “The court’s decision almost gives a green light to let people die in the emergency room. It was shocking.”

Braverman highlighted that parts of the ruling might not be binding since they are not central to the case’s key findings. The question of whether doctors can opt out of certain procedures on religious grounds remains a gray area. Braverman noted that it is uncertain how this aspect of the ruling will be interpreted and applied in practice.
