Stutsman County (trfnews.i234.me) — A Tennessee police officer has died following a tragic hunting accident near Woodworth, North Dakota. According to the Knoxville Police Department, Lieutenant Gordon Gwathney, 57, drowned Sunday morning while on a hunting trip northwest of Jamestown.

In a public statement, Knoxville Police described the loss as “incomprehensible.” Police Chief Paul Null said, “Gordon was beloved by our department and so many members of our community.” Gwathney had served the Knoxville community for many years and was known for his leadership and compassion.

Officials in both North Dakota and Tennessee are coordinating as they review the circumstances surrounding the drowning. No further information has yet been released regarding the cause or sequence of events that led to the accident.
