STUTSMAN COUNTY (trfnews.i234.me) — A suspect is in custody after a shooting incident in downtown Jamestown, North Dakota on Thursday night.

According to Jamestown Police, officers were called to the alley behind the 200 block of 1st Avenue South around 8:40 p.m. on October 2, following reports of gunfire. A witness said a man wearing dark clothing fired about five shots from a handgun before walking north from the scene.

Officers arrived within one minute but could not find the suspect. Investigators located five 9mm shell casings at the scene and began gathering surveillance video and witness statements from the area. The evidence helped police identify the suspect and his residence.

In the early morning hours of Friday, October 3, investigators obtained a search warrant for the suspect’s home. The James Valley Special Operations Team executed the warrant at 5:08 a.m. at a residence on 402nd Avenue Northwest in Jamestown.

During the search, officers recovered a Ruger 9mm handgun, ammunition, and clothing that matched witness descriptions and video footage. The suspect, identified as Kwamne Thomas Kane, 31, of Jamestown, was taken into custody.

Kane is being held on suspicion of reckless endangerment with extreme indifference and discharging a firearm within city limits. The investigation remains ongoing, and police say additional charges are possible.

No injuries were reported during the incident. Authorities credit quick coordination between patrol officers, investigators, and the tactical team for the arrest.
