Moorhead, MN (trfnews.i234.me) — A student at Horizon West Middle School in Moorhead, MN, was found with a paring knife in their locker after allegedly responding to a social media dispute with threats.
According to a letter from the school district, officials were alerted to the situation on Tuesday and immediately investigated. Staff secured the small kitchen knife and confirmed that at no time were any students or staff physically threatened.
Social Media Threat Led to the Incident
School administrators determined that the student brought the knife in response to an online argument the previous evening, which involved inappropriate and threatening language.
The school emphasized that it has taken appropriate disciplinary action following district policies and reassured parents that all students remained safe throughout the incident.
District Urges Parents to Monitor Social Media Use
In response to the incident, Moorhead Area Public Schools encouraged parents to remind children about the responsible use of social media and the importance of reporting safety concerns to a trusted adult.
The district also praised the students who came forward with information and reaffirmed its commitment to investigating all potential threats to ensure a safe learning environment.
School’s Official Statement:
“We appreciate the students who came forward to share their concerns and encourage all students to report any safety-related issues to a trusted adult at school. Open communication is essential in maintaining a safe and supportive learning environment.”
