Stranded Ice Fishermen on Lake of the Woods Prompt Rescue Effort

LAKE OF THE WOODS, MN (trfnews.i234.me) Rescue efforts are underway on Lake of the Woods for ice fisherman, who are stranded on the ice. Snow and ice slush was blocking many ice roads. Ice slush is caused by the thousands of ice fishing holes and the weight of snow.
as of 5:00 p.m. this Monday we apparently still have some stranded anglers out on ice of the woods this in from Doris Knutson of the I news partner northern light region round-the-clock rescue efforts are continuing today on that Lake of the Woods after strong northwesterly winds caused extensive blowing and drifting on the lake ice roads were blocked by drifts measured in feet resort workers assisted by the Lake of the Woods County sheriff’s deputies began efforts to reach stranded anglers Sunday morning and the Northern Lights region has received reports that many of those out trying to rescue people work through the night without sleep or food and continue to do so today Lake of the Woods County Sheriff Gary fish confirmed this afternoon that there are dozens possibly more that remains stranded on the lake that plow trucks have not been able to reach fish also confirmed there are at least four angles anglers that have been reported missing and as of this afternoon remain unaccounted for other anglers have been in touch with resorts or family members via cell phone earlier today there were three others unaccounted for but were eventually located fish says those three had t-mobile cell provider and had no service in this area we’re hoping that the that’s the case with the other four that they just can’t reach anybody by phone at this time fish said it’s a real mess he continued after flying over the lake in a helicopter brought in to help with a search the good news is that we’re seeing signs of life everywhere people are out shoveling no one is running out of the houses waving us down fish also told the northern light region that he knows of at least a few snow plow trucks that have become stuck in drifted snow and slush on the lake I don’t think they’re going to get to everyone today this is likely going to continue into tomorrow fish set now in an latest update from Doris Knutson of the northern Leiter region at least two anglers that were being reported for are as unaccounted for and I have now been found again this is a developing story and apparently terrible slushy conditions up on Lake of the Woods have left several ice fishermen of still stranded we’ll update this story as soon as new information is available I’m Neil Berg reporting for page one publications dot-com
