Becker County, MN (trfnews.i234.me) – Steffan Levis Peters, 37, of rural Osage, has been sentenced in Becker County District Court for misdemeanor domestic assault. Peters faced a felony third-degree assault charge, which was dropped in a plea agreement.
The incident occurred on February 11, 2024, when deputies responded to a domestic disturbance at Peters’ residence. The victim reported severe injuries, including a broken jaw, bruises, and scrapes, allegedly inflicted by Peters. She described a pattern of verbal abuse and physical violence, including being tackled and having her head hit on the floor while her hair was pulled.
Peters initially minimized the incident, claiming it was a verbal argument that escalated when the victim accidentally elbowed him. He later changed his account, suggesting the injuries resulted from the victim tripping.
On April 23, District Judge Michael Fritz sentenced Peters to 90 days in jail, with credit for 70 days served. He was also fined $50 plus $160 in court fees. This sentence will run concurrently with another case involving three misdemeanor convictions for violating a domestic abuse no-contact order while Peters was in jail in February. Records showed Peters attempted to contact the victim 55 times and sent 49 text messages during this period.
