St. Louis County (trfnews.i234.me) – A 17-year-old male is in custody after fleeing from deputies and crashing during a high-speed pursuit in Cook, Minnesota, early Saturday morning.
According to the St. Louis County Sheriff’s Department, deputies responded at 7:45 a.m. to a welfare check for a male passed out in the driver’s seat of a vehicle parked near the railroad tracks in Cook. When emergency responders arrived, the juvenile woke up and sped away.
Authorities say the suspect drove recklessly, prompting additional 911 calls. Deputies located the vehicle southbound on Highway 53 and attempted a traffic stop, leading to a pursuit. During the chase, the suspect made a U-turn in the median and struck another vehicle, causing minor damage, before heading northbound through Cook at high speeds.
The juvenile later stopped the vehicle on his own and was taken into custody without injury. No injuries were reported to law enforcement or the public.
The teen faces charges of fleeing police, fourth-degree DWI, speeding, and open bottle violations. He was transported to the Arrowwood Regional Correction Center in Duluth. Because he is a juvenile, his name is not being released.
