St. Louis Co. Duluth Shooting Suspect Arrested

St. Louis County ( trfnews.i234.me ) – A Duluth man is in custody after a Wednesday night incident involving a shooting and ramming police squad cars. Police say 36-year-old Demetrius Norwood was arrested following the confrontation.

According to Duluth Police, officers responded at about 11:15 p.m. to reports of a shooting in the 500 block of North 57th Avenue West. Investigators say Norwood allegedly fired a gun at a known occupant inside a vehicle before fleeing the scene. The person inside the targeted vehicle was not injured.

While officers were on scene, Norwood reportedly returned and rammed two squad cars with his vehicle. One of the police vehicles had a K-9 inside. No officers or the K-9 were hurt during the incident. Officers quickly arrested Norwood following the crash.

Authorities say he faces several pending charges, including second-degree assault, reckless discharge of a firearm, and possession of a firearm by a felon. Police also noted that Norwood is well known to law enforcement and has an extensive criminal history.

The investigation into the incident remains active. Officials are expected to release additional details as the case proceeds through St. Louis County court. Minnesota statutes outline penalties for second-degree assault and related firearm offenses.
