SPIRIT LAKE NATION, N.D. (trfnews.i234.me) — A juvenile suspect is in custody after a homicide on the Spirit Lake Reservation, according to the Spirit Lake Tribal Council.
The council identified the victim as Jesse Clark Davis. Family and community members knew him as JC.
The Spirit Lake Tribal Council said the homicide occurred on Sunday, January 11, 2026.
Agencies investigating
The council said the Fort Totten Bureau of Indian Affairs Police is leading the local response.
The council said the FBI is also on scene and investigating.
Spirit Lake Nation public relations specialist Vicki Alberts provided the update to the media.
Juvenile suspect in custody
The Spirit Lake Tribal Council said a suspect was apprehended and is in custody.
The suspect is described as a juvenile male.
Officials said the suspect’s name will not be released due to juvenile protections.
Even with an arrest, the investigation remains active, the council said.

Community message
Officials said they believe this incident was isolated.
They said there is no ongoing threat to the community at this time.
Chairwoman Lonna Jackson-Street offered condolences to the Davis family.
“We extend our deepest sympathy to the family and loved ones affected by this tragic loss,” she said.
