SOUTH HEART, N.D. (trfnews.i234.me) ā The North Dakota Highway Patrol has confirmed that a 44-year-old man from South Heart was killed in a rollover crash late Thursday night.
The crash happened just after 11 p.m. about 10 miles south of South Heart, near the intersection of 12 22nd Avenue Southwest and 48th Street Southwest ā a rural gravel intersection in Stark County.
According to the Highway Patrol, the man was driving when he lost control of his vehicle, entered a ditch, and rolled. The driver was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected from the vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Emergency dispatch recordings indicated early reports of a possible person trapped underneath the vehicle, prompting a response from Belfield and South Heart fire and rescue crews. When first responders arrived, they confirmed the crash was fatal.
The name of the victim has not yet been released, pending notification of the family. The Highway Patrol says alcohol and speed may be factors, but the investigation remains ongoing.
This marks one of several fatal crashes on rural roads in western North Dakota in recent weeks. Officials continue to urge drivers to wear seat belts and slow down on gravel surfaces, especially during nighttime travel.
