Simonich Third, NDSU Fifth at Summit League Championships

SELLERSBURG, Ind. – North Dakota State men’s golfer Ian Simonich took third overall at the Summit League Championships held at Covered Bridge Golf Club. The Bison climbed two spots on the final day to take fifth overall.
 
Simonich fired a final round 67 on Tuesday to move up 10 spots on the individual leaderboard and earned all-tournament team honors.
 
Simonich was one of three golfers to shoot the best round of the day, as he carded six birdies to drop five shots on the day and finish at -7. Simonich had eight-straight pars to start his round, but reeled off three straight birdies before his only bogey of the afternoon on 12. He then alternated par and birdies over the final six holes to jump up the leaderboard.
 
Jake Skarperud also finished inside the top 10 for the Bison, taking ninth overall at -6. Skarperud shot a 69 in the final round, carding five birdies. Jack Johnson also shot a 69 in the final round, as he matched Simonich with a team-high six birdies on the day. Johnson finished the event at +4 in a tie for 34th.
 
Nate Adams and Gavin Cronkhite, who subbed in for the final round, wrapped the scoring for NDSU on the day with rounds of 71. Adams had five birdies and Cronkhite finished with four. Adams finished the event at +2, in a tie for 30th overall.
 
NDSU moved up two spots on the final day after shooting a 276 (-12) in the final round. Kansas City (-31) won the event. Mesa Falleur (-11) of Kansas City claimed the medalist honors. Presten Richardson (-8) of Oral Roberts took second overall and secured the individual automatic qualifier spot.
