Major, Bizarre Weather Damage To Resort Lodge's Cabins On Lake Bemidji, Minnesota

LAKE BEMIIDJI, MN (trfnews.i234.me) We had mmaajor damage to cabins at Rutgers Lodge on Lake Bemidji, Minnesota Saturday afternoon. Wind piled up ice on shore damaging 6 cabins.

  1. I had one of my cabins at my resort get smashed up 6 years ago. This year is brutal because of all the rain last fall and snow this winter the water levels on the lakes rose quite a bit. Also, cooler temps had most of the snow melting without warming the frost in the ground so the snowmelt runoff went into the lakes and rivers. I lucked out again and the wind was blowing from the south so it blew the ice off the lake on the north side lol.

  2. This is neither bizarre or unusual. It happens nearly every year and is caused by strong winds blowing over the surface of the ice, which then gets pushed on to the shore in great heaps. Any structure close to shore is usually heavily damaged or destroyed and the ice can move several hundreds of yards inland.
