According to the complaint, Winthrop police responded to South Redwood Street around 7 a.m. Friday, after neighbors reported hearing 10 to 15 shots. Investigators discovered that at least three bullets had pierced the living room and dining room of a neighboring residence.
Police executed a search warrant at Stolfa’s home, locating a Glock 48 9mm handgun, spent casings, and boxes of ammunition. Officers documented bullet holes throughout the home, including in the kitchen ceiling, basement walls, stairwell, and back entryway. Numerous empty beer cans were scattered inside.
Investigators say Stolfa admitted to firing the weapon both inside and outside her home. She gave conflicting reasons, at times saying it was a joke, and other times claiming she acted because her neighbor is Jewish. Stolfa also said she had been drinking heavily for three days and thought shooting would be “fun.” A breath test registered a .17 blood alcohol concentration.
She admitted to shooting into her neighbor’s house but insisted she only meant to scare him, not injure him. At one point, she told officers, “I guess I’m guilty. I will claim self-defense, harassment, and bullying,” but later blamed her actions on being blackout drunk.
Stolfa appeared in court on Monday, where bail was set at $750,000 without conditions or $250,000 with conditions. She remains in custody. If convicted, she faces up to seven years for assault, five years each for the firearm discharge and property damage counts, and two years for reckless discharge.
The case remains under review in the Minnesota District Court.
