Shots Fired During High-Speed Chase in Polk County Ends with Suspect Wounded

Polk County (trfnews.i234.me)—A high-speed pursuit that began around 9:30 a.m. today culminated west of Crookston on KT Road, ending with reports of shots fired and the suspect sustaining injuries. The chase, involving speeds between 80 and 125 mph, commenced near Warren, Minnesota, with the suspect heading southbound.

Initial reports indicated that the pursuit was initiated due to suspected border jumping and speeding violations. Radio communications revealed concerns about the suspect potentially being armed, prompting Marshall County to request additional assistance. During the chase, the suspect allegedly attempted to ram two deputies’ vehicles, escalating the situation.

A Border Patrol helicopter provided aerial support as the suspect continued south on Highway 75, passing landmarks such as 160th Avenue Southwest at speeds reaching 118 mph. Despite attempts to deploy stop sticks near the University of Minnesota Crookston (UMC), the suspect evaded capture, speeding through downtown Crookston and proceeding westward on KT Road.

The pursuit concluded on County Road 9, west of County Road 16, where shots were fired. Emergency Medical Services were dispatched to the scene, and radio traffic indicated that the suspect was shot in the leg. The Polk County Sheriff’s Office has announced that a formal news release will be forthcoming with additional details.

This incident underscores the challenges law enforcement faces during high-speed pursuits, especially when suspects are potentially armed and attempt to harm officers. The collaborative efforts of multiple agencies, including local police, county deputies, and federal resources like the Border Patrol, highlight the coordinated response required in such situations.

As the investigation continues, authorities are expected to provide more information regarding the suspect’s identity, charges, and the circumstances leading up to the pursuit. Residents are advised to stay updated through official channels for the latest developments.
