In Hennepin County, Minnesota, Abdimahat Bille Mohamed received a shocking sentence after being convicted of two separate sexual assault cases. The 28-year-old Minneapolis man will avoid prison time and instead receive probation for his crimes. One case involved the sexual assault of a 15-year-old girl, while another involved an adult woman he met on Snapchat.

Did you know? In the first case from December 2017, Mohamed picked up the teenager under false pretenses and sexually assaulted her at gunpoint after threatening her with a silver revolver. DNA evidence later confirmed his involvement in the crime. As part of a plea deal, he admitted to third-degree criminal sexual conduct involving a victim aged 13 to 15, while other charges were dismissed. Mohamed was sentenced to 364 days in jail and placed on probation for five years with credit for time already served.

In the second case from May 2024, Mohamed sexually assaulted a woman he had connected with on Snapchat after locking her in his bedroom. The victim disclosed visible bruises and later told paramedics she had been raped and strangled. Mohamed pleaded guilty to a reduced charge of fifth-degree criminal sexual conduct involving non-consensual penetration, while additional charges were dismissed as part of the plea deal. He was sentenced to 14 months in prison, stayed for one day, placed on probation for one day with credit for time already served.

As part of his sentence, Mohamed must register as a sex offender, complete a sex offender treatment program, maintain employment and have no contact with minors. If he violates those terms, his prison term could then be imposed.
