WOODBURY, MN (trfnews.i234.me) — An 18-year-old student from Woodbury High School, Ber’tavion Anton Boyd, is facing serious charges after allegedly displaying a replica firearm on school grounds, leading to a significant police response and temporary lockdowns of two schools.
On Monday, March 31, 2025, a fellow student reported seeing Boyd showing what appeared to be a handgun inside his backpack while at Woodbury High School, located at 2665 Woodlane Drive. The concerned student promptly informed school officials, who involved the school’s resource officer.
When approached by the officer and questioned about possessing any prohibited items, Boyd reportedly became agitated and refused to comply with a search. He then left the school building with his backpack. As a precautionary measure, both Woodbury High School and the nearby Royal Oaks Elementary School were placed under “secure protocol,” a status that lasted approximately 30 minutes.
Authorities conducted an extensive search of the surrounding area and eventually located Boyd, who no longer had the backpack or the firearm in his possession. He led detectives to a location where he claimed to have left the bag, but no weapon was found there. Subsequently, police discovered parts of what appeared to be a firearm near a residential area on Cypress Drive. These components, including the grip and slide, were later determined to be from a replica handgun.
Boyd has been charged with one gross misdemeanor count of using or brandishing a replica firearm or BB gun while knowingly on school property and one misdemeanor count of fleeing a peace officer by means other than a motor vehicle. If convicted, he faces up to 364 days in jail and a $3,000 fine for the weapons charge.
Did you know? In Minnesota, it is illegal to possess, store, or keep a replica firearm or BB gun on school property without written permission from the school principal, as stipulated by Minnesota Statute 609.66.
