a bit of short-lived evil crept into the town of beautiful Ely Minnesota in The Boundary Waters of northern Minnesota this past week it was a man against animals this story from our reporter Marshall helmberger used by his permission from the timber J newspaper quote a 20 year old college student from South Dakota here is facing an eighteen hundred dollar fine after he used his pickup to run down three deer along ely’s Central Avenue leaving them partially paralyzed and struggling on the street all three animals were eventually put down by retired Ely police officer John saw Casey Meadows a Madison South Dakota Resident was driving his vehicle along the road on the south edge of Ely in the late afternoon on Tuesday March 21st when he spotted three deer on the road High Banks of snow on either side of the road prevented the deer from easily escaping the roadway which made them an easy target for Meadows who used his truck to intentionally maim the animals before continuing on his way law enforcement was quickly alerted to the situation as subsequent drivers witnessed the injured deer crawling on the road quote it was not a pretty scene said saw who was driving by shortly after Meadow struck the deer he said passerby were clearly upset and some started crying at the site social media exploded in the wake of the incident that led to the identification of a person the next day the passenger later identified Meadows a natural resources technician student at Vermilion Community College as the driver DNR conservation officer Anthony bermel along with the Ely police and a deputy from the St Louis County Sheriff’s Office interviewed Meadows at his Ely residence where he acknowledged his intent and said the he assumed the animals would die quickly Meadows drives a pickup truck with an attached heavy duty grill which prevents prevented damage to his vehicle as a result of striking the deer quote I’ve never had a case like this in my 12 years on the job says bermel who acknowledged the outrage that played out on social media in the wake of the incident people have a right to be upset he said uh he said Meadows didn’t really have an excuse it was an opportunist opportunistic thing and for whatever reason he thought it would be fun Meadows has now been charged with a violation which prohibits anyone from using a vehicle to chase a rundown wild animals he faces a restitution payment of 500 per animal along with a 300 fine according to Burma bermel acknowledged that the relatively light penalty had been criticized but he noted law enforcement has to follow existing statutes and penalties the law spells out regardless of the outrage the public might feel over someone’s actions the timberj sought more information about Meadow status and Ely but Acts us to his social media accounts has been suspended and online links connecting him to the college are no longer operative again that’s from reporter Marshall helmberger of the Timber J newspaper now another paper up in Ely is now reporting he could be facing more charges the County Attorney there is taking a look at possible cruelty to animal and other charges I’m Neil Berg reporting for itrfnews.i234.me

What a sick fk
that guy should be put on a list. this is some psychopathic behavior.
Leaving the scene of a crime.
Psychopath
This is sad, what a loser this person must be.
Put his ass in jail
Hope you don't mind my comment? I don't think I heard anything about a mental evaluation on that individual? It's not amazing how we have stickers posted on gas pumps-saying that you could lose your license if you don't pay for gas! But I didn't hear about anything about animals just saying!
That guy's got issues. F'ing psychopath.
I think that “man” should lose his penile extension, a.k.a. his truck for about six months, and then be responsible for impound fees on top of his other fines.
Deer God, What the hell! Loss of MN hunting and fishing license privileges is he has or ever applies for an out of state license.
Come over here from south Dakota and run over are deer what a fucking putts! Go back to south dakota!
just the idea someone tried to hit deer is disgusting
I wish I had a machine just to drive around and chop up all these damn deer they are worse than mice eating our crops and cost me money
What a load of BS I got 45 days in jail and a $1500 fine for an animal that was hanging in my tree as I was skinning it to eat it because we didn’t have much at the time. Fock that pile of 💩
He chose to be evil! Felony charges should be filed.
sick college kid
Hopefully this keeps him from getting a carrer in Natural resources.
Well, now we know who needs to be run over next.
A $1800 fine is not nearly enough for the pain he caused these deer. I hope he gets the 90 days as well, he is cold and heartless. Increase fines and sentences for animal welfare crimes.
He has probably done it before.
This story has just hit the front page feed of google chromes homepage. expect more views incoming.
i hope the outrage that ensues claims his career, his truck, and privileges to hunt or fish for life.
Somebody most likely would have killed them by accident anyway.
Notice where the clown was from…..enough said!
It's a cultural issue and so very American.
