Severe Weather Advisory: Travel Restrictions and Safety Updates in Polk County

Polk County, MN (trfnews.i234.me)Authorities in Polk County are warning travelers of hazardous conditions caused by severe weather. The Polk County Sheriff’s Office reports zero visibility in some areas, with snow drifting across roads due to blowing winds. A press release issued Friday advises, “If you do not need to travel, please stay home. If you get stuck, first responders may not be able to assist until conditions improve.”

The North Dakota Highway Patrol also encourages motorists to exercise caution and stay informed. Interstate 29 is closed from Grand Forks to the Canadian border due to the weather.

The National Weather Service in Grand Forks has issued a Cold Weather Advisory in effect until 9 PM Friday, alongside an Extreme Cold Warning from 6 PM Saturday to noon Tuesday. Wind chills as low as 39 below are expected during the advisory period, while the Extreme Cold Warning forecasts wind chills as low as 50 below, posing significant risks to safety.
