Semi-Truck Fire Causes Temporary Closure on Interstate 29 Near Oxbow, ND

CASS COUNTY, ND (trfnews.i234.me) – At approximately 10:30 p.m. CT on January 4, 2025, a northbound semi-truck hauling a trailer on Interstate 29 near mile marker 50, close to Oxbow, ND, became fully engulfed in flames. The side of the trailer split open during the incident. In response, authorities closed the northbound lanes of Interstate 29 from Exit 50 (Oxbow) to Exit 54 (Davenport) to facilitate firefighting efforts. Traffic was detoured to County Road 81. No injuries were reported.

The North Dakota Department of Transportation (ND DOT) updated the Travel Information Map to reflect this incident. The Cass County Sheriff’s Department, Southern Valley Fire and Rescue, Kindred Fire and Rescue, and the ND Department of Transportation assisted in managing the situation. The North Dakota Highway Patrol is investigating the incident.

By approximately 1:30 a.m. on January 5, one northbound lane of Interstate 29 was reopened to traffic, with cleanup operations ongoing.
