Scott Earhart Johnson – Obituary

October 21, 1947 to December 19, 2024
Scott Earhart Johnson, 77, passed away unexpectedly of natural causes on December 19, 2024. He was born October 21, 1947 in Grand Forks, ND to Robert Earhart and Fern Marie (Sampson) Johnson. He was the oldest of six siblings and grew up playing pickup hockey, baseball, and running a paper route. He was very proud his active service in the United States Army from 1967-1969, spending much of his active duty time in Germany. After the Army, he moved to Minneapolis where he went to school and met his wife of 54 years, Julie.

He worked his entire professional career in paperboard packaging for print companies, and could regularly be found researching potential customers, or at his drafting table working up new designs and ideas. He was always the best dressed in the family and loved getting dressed up, especially for Christmas.

Scott enjoyed reading and collecting books, golfing, listening to old radio shows, and watching anything on PBS. He was a lifelong night owl and was universally known for his coffee with extra extra extra cream and sugar. He loved birthday steak dinners, celebrating family holidays with potato klub and ham, and of course lefse with butter and brown sugar.

He enjoyed time with his family and was so proud of his daughters, sons-in-law and grandsons. He was also known for spoiling his grand dogs, and his lap was always the one chosen by the cats for their naps.

He is survived by his wife Julie Alsworth, brother Randy Johnson, sister Julie Prince, daughters Amelia (Brian) Halsted, and Erika (Erick) Burkett, grandsons Mitchell and Maxwell, dear sisters in law, nieces and nephews, many cousins, and long-time friends. He was deeply loved by his family, who will miss his sense of humor, his pranks, family meals, time together on the golf course, and his stories from growing up in Grand Forks.

He is preceded in death by his parents, and his brothers John, Patrick, and Ira.

A funeral service is scheduled for Monday, December 30th at 11:00 AM at Wayzata Community Church (Chapel), 125 Wayzata Blvd East, with visitation one hour prior. Scott will be laid to rest at Fort Snelling Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to be directed to the National Coalition for Homeless Veterans or Twin Cities Public Broadcasting.
