A Red Lake man has been sentenced for shooting two individuals last year on the Red Lake Indian Reservation.

Brennon Allen James Sayers, (21) was sentenced Monday to 84 months in prison, followed by three years of supervised release.

According to United States Attorney Andrew M. Luger, Sayers was arguing loudly with his girlfriend in a vehicle outside a residence in the Ponemah area on May 5th, 2021 when one victim, identified in court documents as J.L.Z., came out of his residence across the street, and began telling Sayers to stop arguing and fighting with his girlfriend.

A second victim, identified in court documents as C.T.G., was walking down the road at the time and encountered the interaction between Sayers and J.L.Z.. As the confrontation between Sayers, and J.L.Z. escalated to threats, Sayers pulled a firearm from his waistband, and began shooting at both J.L.Z. and C.T.G. as they ran towards J.L.Z.’s house. Both J.L.Z., and C.T.G. were struck by the gunfire. Sayers fled the area, and was located several hours later at his mother’s residence on the Red Lake Indian Reservation.

Sayers entered a plea of guilty on January 20th, 2022, to two counts of assault resulting in serious bodily injury.
