DETROIT LAKES, MN (trfnews.i234.me) – Douglas David Carr, 45, of rural Frazee, has been sentenced to two consecutive 12-year prison terms for two counts of felony first-degree criminal sexual conduct. He faced six felony counts and was convicted on all counts in March by a Becker County jury.
The charges stem from accusations that Carr had sexually assaulted two young family members over several years, beginning in 2004. The victims testified, and forensic interviews corroborated their claims.
Carr’s attorney argued against consecutive sentencing, citing Carr’s age and lack of prior record, and requested probation instead. However, Becker County Attorney Brian McDonald pushed for consecutive sentences, emphasizing the severity of Carr’s actions.
Judge Gretchen Thilmony imposed the 24-year sentence, of which Carr will serve 16 years in prison. Upon release, he will be on conditional release for 99 years and must register as a predatory offender. Carr was also fined and prohibited from possessing firearms for life.
