A Roseau woman, Arrial Lovelace, has been sentenced for her role in a child assault case. In May 2024, the Roseau County Sheriff’s Office was alerted to an incident involving a daycare provider allegedly assaulting a child under her supervision. Investigating officers, along with Roseau County Social Services, reviewed photos of the child’s injuries.

Lovelace, the daycare provider, later admitted during an interview to “smacking the child,” leading to charges of felony third-degree assault and gross misdemeanor malicious punishment of a child.

On Tuesday, Lovelace was sentenced to one year in jail for malicious punishment of a child, but the sentence was suspended. She will serve one year of unsupervised probation and is required to complete an anger management assessment. The third-degree assault charge was dismissed.
