Roseau County Teen Booked for Contempt — Defied Court Order, Lands in Jail

Michael E. Howard

Roseau County, Minnesota (trfnews.i234.me) — A 19-year-old from Roseau County has found himself behind bars after allegedly willfully disobeying a court mandate. On March 25, 2025, Michael E. Howard was arrested by the Roseau Police Department and booked on a petty misdemeanor charge of Contempt of Court.

Court records indicate that the charge stems from intentional noncompliance with a previous legal directive. Despite the nature of the charge, no bail was set, signaling the seriousness with which the court is treating the offense. His current disposition and release date have not yet been disclosed.

This arrest is a reminder that ignoring court orders, even for lesser offenses, can quickly escalate into jail time.

Did you know?

  • A petty misdemeanor in Minnesota is punishable by a fine of up to $300 — but contempt charges can result in detainment until compliance.

  • The “willful” element of a contempt charge means the court believes the disobedience was intentional and deliberate.

  • The Roseau Police Department has jurisdiction over numerous municipal court cases and actively enforces court mandates.

  • Even without a criminal record, contempt of court can result in immediate arrest and no bail, depending on the court’s ruling.
