Roseau County (trfnews.i234.me) — A Warroad man is facing multiple charges after police say he drove drunk to the station while attempting to report an assault.
According to a criminal complaint filed in Roseau County District Court, 42-year-old Joseph Harold Husbands has been charged with:
-
DWI — operating under the influence of alcohol (gross misdemeanor)
-
DWI — alcohol concentration .08 or more (gross misdemeanor)
-
Open bottle violation (misdemeanor)
The incident happened on the morning of August 11, 2025, when Husbands walked into the Warroad Police Department to file an assault report.
An officer noted that Husbands was slurring his words and smelled strongly of alcohol. During questioning, Husbands admitted he had driven himself to the station.
A preliminary breath test showed a .206 alcohol concentration, more than twice the legal limit. Officers placed him under arrest.
Police then searched his vehicle and found a 24-ounce can of Steel Reserve Spiked Strawberry, three-quarters full, on the floor near the shifter.
Court records show Husbands was also driving after his license had been canceled, as inimical to public safety, and did not have an ignition interlock system installed as required.
Husbands has a history of DWI offenses, including two implied consent violations in 2021 and a prior conviction in case 39-CR-21-144. He also has a pending DWI case in 68-CR-25-164 and additional pending charges in 68-CR-25-544.
If convicted, Husbands faces up to 364 days in jail and a $3,000 fine on each gross misdemeanor count, and up to 90 days in jail and a $1,000 fine for the open bottle violation.
The case remains under review in Roseau County District Court.
