Ros Gander, 63, of East Grand Forks, MN died Tuesday, March 25, 2025 at her home after a short battle with cancer.
Rosalynd Lee Rhen was born July 10, 1961 in Crookston, MN to Roger and JoAnn (Jergens) Rhen. She grew up in Grand Forks, ND until the second grade when her family moved to East Grand Forks, MN. Ros graduated from East Grand Forks Senior High in 1979. Following graduation, she attended the University of North Dakota, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Textiles and Clothing. She moved to Ames, Iowa to continue her education at Iowa State University, where she earned her Master’s Degree in Textiles and Clothing. Following graduation, Ros worked for the Fashion Channel of the Home Shopping Network based in the Twin Cities. Her company offered her a promotion and an opportunity to move to Philadelphia, PA. Ros had other plans.
On June 30, 1990, Ros married Steven Gander in East Grand Forks. Upon arriving in East Grand Forks, Ros started working at the Good Samaritan Nursing Center as Resource Development Coordinator. She continued there for about three years. Then she took the position of Financial Manager at Opticare which she held until the time of her passing.
On a warm day in July of 1993, Ros and Steve were blessed with a son, Tom. In the middle of a blizzard in January 1996, their home was warmed with the arrival of a second son, John. Ros would tell you that her greatest joy in life was being a mom and grandma. She loved all children. Ros had a kind word to say about everyone and was always willing to serve others—so humble that she never drew attention to herself. Ros was tenacious and had the concentration to finish what she started. She enjoyed art, gardening, and dancing. Ros and Steve are active members of Christ the King Free Lutheran Church. Ros was a woman of deep faith and always kept an incredibly positive attitude.
Ros is survived by her loving husband, Steve Gander of East Grand Forks; sons, Tom (Bailey) Gander of Grand Forks and John Gander of East Grand Forks; grandchildren Micah, Harper, and Iris Gander; mother, JoAnn Rhen of East Grand Forks; brothers, Chad (Michelle) Rhen of Alexandria, MN, and Turk (Isabel) Rhen of East Grand Forks; sister, Nicole (John) Riley of Hugo, MN; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws and extended family left to carry on her legacy. Ros will be deeply missed by her family and friends.
Ros was preceded in death by her father, Roger Rhen; and her granddaughter, Clara Gander.
