Roger K. Johnson, age 60 of Park River, ND passed away on Saturday, June 8, 2024 east of Park River from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.
Roger Johnson was born on August 19, 1963, in Park River, ND, to Arthur K. and Roseann (Korynta) Johnson. He was raised in Park River and attended Park River Public Schools, graduating in 1981. Even prior to graduation, he started his electrical career working with Wes Samson and later Paul Samson at Samson Electric in Park River. He went on to do electrical work out west in the oil fields, living in Bismarck, ND, for two years, and finally returned to Park River and was employed at Kieley Electric in Grafton, working for Ryan Hanson. Roger took enormous pride in working hard, doing quality work, and training younger electricians in the “right way,” like he learned from Wes Samson at the start of his career. Many of his coworkers became Roger’s very good friends, as did many customers he worked for all over Walsh County and beyond.
Roger was an athlete in his younger years, playing ice hockey and football for the Park River Aggies. In his later years, he greatly enjoyed hunting and fishing, gardening, riding his prized Harley Davidson motorcycle, projects on his farm, and at his house in Park River, and spending time with his siblings, nephews, and great-nieces and great-nephew. Roger was an absolute rock for his family and generously shared his many talents – electrical, plumbing, building, gardening, and many more – with any member of his family and friends when they were in need. There was no job too big when it came to Roger’s family and friends, and he would always come to the rescue. Roger was the glue that held the family together, and we love him with all our hearts and will miss him always.
Roger is survived by his brother Randy (Roxann) Johnson, sister Barb Ferguson, and sister Kathy (Kevin) Ferguson, all of Park River, ND; nephews Shawn Ferguson, Capitol Heights, MD, Justin (Tanya) Ferguson, Baudette, MN, Riley (Sarah O’Brien) Ferguson, Park River, ND, Kyle Ferguson, Baudette, MN; several aunts, uncles, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Edward and Isabel Korynta, Ole and Hattie Johnson, parents, Art and Roseann Johnson, brother-in-law, Jim Ferguson, and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Mass of Christian burial will be Tuesday, June 18, 2024 at 10:30 AM at the St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church of Grafton, ND. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service at the church. Inurnment will be at the Calvary Cemetery of Park River, ND.
