RICHFIELD, MN (trfnews.i234.me) – Luke Joshua Cain, 29, of Richfield, has pleaded guilty to second-degree unintentional murder in a deadly confrontation that occurred on December 6, 2024.
Cain admitted to firing two shots at a grey Ford F-150 that he believed was involved in stealing from his van. One bullet struck and killed Sofia Rose O’Hotto, 26, in the back of the head. The shooting happened around 3:30 a.m. near 6200 5th Avenue South.
Cain initially denied using a firearm, but later confessed to possessing and firing it, then hiding the weapon at a cabin. Police found stolen items from Cain’s van in the fleeing truck and captured surveillance showing him brandishing a gun.
As part of a plea deal, Cain’s sentence is capped at 128 months, though his attorneys aim to secure less. He remains out on $100,000 bail pending his August 7 sentencing.
