Rice County: Young Driver Injured After Ford Focus Flips Off I-35 in Shocking Crash

Rice County (trfnews.i234.me) — A shocking early morning crash on March 17, 2025, left a 24-year-old Faribault man, Mohamed Ali Abdi, with non-life-threatening injuries after his vehicle veered off the roadway on Interstate 35 near milepost 63 in Forest Township, Rice County.

According to the Minnesota State Patrol, Abdi was driving a 2018 Ford Focus southbound on I-35 around 6:05 a.m. when the vehicle left the highway and crashed. The road was reported dry at the time of the incident.

Emergency responders, including the Rice County Sheriff’s Office, Faribault Fire Department, and North Ambulance, arrived on the scene. Abdi was transported to District 1 Hospital with injuries described as non-life-threatening.

Authorities noted that alcohol was not involved in the crash. It remains unclear whether Abdi was wearing a seatbelt at the time. The vehicle’s airbag was deployed.
