Detroit Lakes, MN (trfnews.i234.me) — Cody James Kneifl, 27, of Detroit Lakes, has been charged in Becker County District Court with felony domestic assault and misdemeanor fifth-degree assault. The charges stem from an incident on April 16, 2025, where Kneifl allegedly assaulted his ex-girlfriend in her home.
According to court records, the victim reported that Kneifl slapped her twice and pinned her down during the altercation. Her son, who was in the next room, heard the commotion and what sounded like a physical struggle. Kneifl has two prior convictions for fifth-degree assault.
On April 18, Kneifl was released without bail under conditions that prohibit him from consuming alcohol or nonprescribed drugs, contacting the victim or her son, and entering her residence. He is also required to comply with pre-trial supervision. His next court appearance is scheduled for May 21 before District Judge Michael Fritz.
