J.D. Souther, an iconic singer-songwriter and occasional actor, has passed away. Best known for penning some of the Eagles’ most beloved hits, including New Kid in Town and Heartache Tonight, Souther left an indelible mark on American rock music. Born in Detroit and raised in Amarillo, Texas, Souther moved to Los Angeles in the late 1960s, where he met Glenn Frey and began co-writing songs with the future Eagles member. Their collaboration produced timeless classics for the Eagles, Linda Ronstadt, and others.
Souther enjoyed solo success with his hit You’re Only Lonely, while also contributing to other major songs like Faithless Love for Ronstadt and Her Town Too with James Taylor. Additionally, he appeared in television dramas like Nashville and Thirtysomething.
