Chad McQueen, best known for his role as Dutch in the iconic Karate Kid films and for his deep ties to motorsport, passed away on September 12, 2024. The son of Hollywood legend Steve McQueen, Chad carved his own path in both acting and racing, leaving an indelible mark on fans of cinema and motorsport alike.
Inspired by his famous father, Chad began racing at just 9 years old, entering dirt bike competitions and later branching out into motocross, Baja racing, and professional car racing. He made his acting debut in 1978 in Skateboard, but it was his portrayal of Dutch, a Cobra Kai fighter in The Karate Kid franchise, that cemented his place in pop culture.
McQueen’s career wasn’t limited to acting. As a film producer, he helped create documentaries honoring his father, such as I Am Steve McQueen and Steve McQueen: The Man and Le Mans. He also co-produced Red Line (1996), an action-packed car racing film that reflected his love for the sport.
Chad’s contributions to racing went beyond the track. In 2010, he founded McQueen Racing, a legacy that continues through his children, Chase and Madison, whom he shared with his second wife, Jeanie Galbraith. He also had a son, Steven R. McQueen, from his first marriage to Stacia Toten.
Tributes to McQueen have poured in from across Hollywood and the Karate Kid universe. Filmmakers and co-stars celebrated his portrayal of Dutch, a fan-favorite character, and his lasting impact on the franchise.
