RED LAKE, MN (trfnews.i234.me) — There’s a new development in the tragic case of Jennifer Stately of Red Lake, Minnesota. She’s accused of murdering her two young sons in March 2024 and now faces a federal trial.

According to federal court documents, Stately was originally charged in state court after authorities said she stabbed her five and six-year-old sons before setting their home on fire on March 15th, 2024. One of the boys survived the stabbing but later died from smoke inhalation. Stately fled the scene with a third son, who was found in poor physical condition when she was later arrested.

The case was later moved from state to federal court. In July, federal prosecutors filed a superseding indictment that updated the original charges. Stately now faces the following counts:

  • Count 1: Premeditated murder of both sons
  • Count 2: Murder during the commission of child abuse
  • Count 3: Murder during the commission of arson
  • Count 4: Arson
  • Count 5: Felony child neglect of the surviving son

Court records show that Stately underwent a psychological examination in Los Angeles. The results of that evaluation remain sealed in the federal case file. However, the case continues to move forward.

On October 8th, 2025, attorneys for both the prosecution and defense met in a federal hearing to review the case’s status and discuss scheduling. A trial date has not been made public yet.

The case remains active in federal court, and further updates are expected as proceedings continue.
