Red Lake County Weekly Sheriff’s Report 8-15 thru 8-20, 2025

Red Lake County (trfnews.i234.me) – The Red Lake County Sheriff’s Office has released its weekly report of calls, citations, and investigations covering August 15 through August 20, 2025. Sheriff Mitch Bernstein provided the following details:

Traffic Citations

  • On the evening of August 15, Jasmin Rose Metcalf, 22, of Emerado, North Dakota, was cited for driving after suspension and no proof of current motor vehicle insurance on County Road 13 west of Red Lake Falls.

  • On the evening of August 16, Darren Jeffrey Bergsgaard, 63, of Grand Forks, North Dakota, was cited for speeding on County Road 13 west of Red Lake Falls.

  • That same evening, Matthew John Jorstad, 51, of Grand Forks, was also cited for speeding in the same area.

Criminal and Juvenile Reports

  • In the early morning of August 17, deputies took a report from an individual claiming they were being extorted. The same person also reported being sexually assaulted in another jurisdiction. The extortion report is under investigation, and the sexual assault report has been forwarded to the appropriate agency.

  • On the evening of August 17, deputies investigated a complaint of a reckless ATV driver in Oklee. A juvenile suspect was located, and both the youth and parents were counseled.

  • On the evening of August 18, deputies responded to reports of juveniles driving a golf cart onto newly seeded grass at People’s Park in Plummer. The suspects were identified, and it was agreed that they would perform community service for the city.

  • On the afternoon of August 19, deputies located juveniles in Plummer after complaints of knocking on doors and running away. The youths were counseled, and parents were notified.

  • On the morning of August 20, a young child wearing only underwear walked into the Oklee School office after escaping home through an unlocked door. Deputies quickly reunited the child with a guardian.

Additional Incidents

  • On August 20, deputies concluded an illegal dumping investigation originally reported on August 12. Troy David Gustafson, 59, and Courtney Nicole Gustafson, 33, both of Plummer, were cited for misdemeanor illegal dumping into a city-owned dumpster.

  • That afternoon, deputies responded to a residence in Red Lake Falls Township where a civil process server reported issues with a resident. No crimes were committed, and the process was completed.

  • On the evening of August 20, deputies and the Red Lake Falls Ambulance responded to a motor vehicle crash near the Red Lake–Polk County line. One patient was taken to the Riverview ER in Crookston. The crash is under investigation by the Polk County Sheriff’s Office.
