Red Lake County Sheriff’s Office Report 10-01-2024

On the morning of 09/20/24, Jacolyn Joy Cassavant (62) of Red Lake Falls was cited for speeding on Hwy. #59 south of Brooks.

On the afternoon of 09/20/24, Bridget Mae Schussman (37) of Bemidji was cited for speeding on Hwy. #59 south of Plummer.

On 09/20/24, a formal criminal complaint was filed, charging Samantha Marie Gerholdt (33) with felony aiding and abetting burglary. The complaint alleges she attempted to aid another individual with the burglary of the E&J Grocery Store in Oklee in July of 2024. Ms. Gerholdt is currently in custody at the jail in Crookston for other offenses. She will appear in Court in Red Lake Falls to face this charge sometime in October of 2024.

On the afternoon of 09/20/24, the Red Lake County Sheriff’s Office receive a report of an individual trespassing at a vacant building in Red Lake Falls. A Red Lake County deputy responded to the property, but no suspects were found. There was no damage to the property, nor did it appear that anything was stolen. The report remains under investigation.

On the afternoon of 09/22/24, Red Lake County deputies responded to a disturbance at a Poplar River Township residence. The deputies mediated the dispute, and the involved parties were separated.

On the morning of 09/24/24, members of the Red Lake County Sheriff’s Office assisted agents from the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension with the execution of a search warrant at a Red Lake Falls residence. Nicholas Russ Schmit (40) of Red Lake Falls was arrested and he was taken to jail in Crookston by a Red Lake County deputy. Mr. Schmit was booked for felony possession of pornographic work on a computer or electronic device, which involves minors. The Minnesota BCA is handling the investigation and that investigation is ongoing. Mr. Schmit appeared in Court in Crookston on 09/26/24. He was ordered to post $25,000 cash bail and abide by court-ordered conditions to be released. He remains in custody at this time and his next hearing is scheduled for 10/09/24.

On the evening of 09/24/24, a Red Lake Falls resident reported that someone had damaged their vehicle. That report is still under investigation.

On the afternoon of 09/25/24, Red Lake County law enforcement and Red Lake County Social Services investigated a report involving child welfare in Oklee. Investigation into this matter is ongoing.

On the afternoon of 09/25/24, the Red Lake County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a School Bus Stop Arm violation. This violation occurred on CR. #1 east of Red Lake Falls. A Red Lake County deputy stopped the suspect vehicle on Bottineau Ave. in Red Lake Falls. A juvenile from Plummer was the driver of the vehicle and the matter will be referred to juvenile court.

On the afternoon of 09/25/24, Lara J. Pole (49) of Rocky Point, NY was cited for speeding on CR. #13 west of Red Lake Falls.

On the evening of 09/25/24, Vasha Richard Streeper (49) of Red Lake Falls was cited for no current motor vehicle insurance on 5th St. SW in Red Lake Falls.

On the evening of 09/26/24, a Red Lake County deputy responded to a report of a disturbance at Hillcrest in Red Lake Falls. One of their residents was acting unruly. The deputy counseled the individual and staff, and the situation was mediated.

On the morning of 09/27/24, a bus driver from the Red Lake Falls School District reported a School Bus Stop-Arm Violation had occurred near Lafayette High School in Red Lake Falls. That report is still under investigation.
