On the afternoon of 08/30/24, the Clay County Sheriff’s Office reported they had arrested John James Nogowski (36) of Red Lake Falls. Red Lake County holds an active misdemeanor warrant for his arrest. Mr. Nogowski has other warrants outstanding in other counties, so Red Lake County placed a hold on him, and he will be turned over to Red Lake County authorities when some of those other matters are settled.
On the afternoon of 08/30/24, the Red Lake County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a woman with some children, who may be homeless, was in Red Lake Falls and in need of assistance. A Red Lake County deputy responded and found the woman’s vehicle had broken down and needed help getting to her destination. The deputy networked with Red Lake County Social Services and her, and her children were transported to a residence in St. Hilaire.
On the afternoon of 08/31/24, the Pennington County Sheriff’s Office reported they had arrested Jason Ray Scott (48) of Thief River Falls. Red Lake County holds an active gross misdemeanor warrant for his arrest. Mr. Scott posted $100 cash bail on 09/03/24 to satisfy the warrant and he was released from custody. He will appear in Court in Red Lake Falls on 09/11/24.
On the evening of 08/31/24, Red Lake County deputies, the Minnesota State Patrol, the Plummer Fire Department, and the Oklee Ambulance were dispatched to a report of a crash on Hwy. #59 south of Plummer. It was discovered that a 3-wheeled motor bike struck a deer. A passenger on the motor bike sustained non-life-threatening injuries, but they were transported to the Sanford ER in Thief River Falls by the Oklee Ambulance. The Minnesota State Patrol is handling the crash investigation.
On the afternoon of 09/01/24, a Red Lake County deputy and the Red Lake Falls Fire Department responded to the Red Lake River, west of Sportsman’s Park, in Red Lake Falls. It was reported that some individuals were on a raft, and they missed their docking spot because of the swift current. Members of the Red Lake Falls Fire Department located the individuals, assisted them off of the river and gave them a ride back to Voyageur’s View Campground.
On the afternoon of 09/01/24, an individual reported they had parked their vehicle by the bridge on Hwy. #32 north of Red Lake Falls, overnight, and when they returned, it had been damaged. A Red Lake County deputy responded, and the incident is still under investigation.
On the afternoon of 09/01/24, the Red Lake County Sheriff’s Office received a report of an intoxicated individual driving a vehicle on Hwy. #92 west of Brooks. A Red Lake County deputy responded and met the suspect vehicle, which was exceeding the speed limit. The deputy stopped the vehicle and investigation revealed that the driver, Hunter James Richard (28) of Harwood, ND was intoxicated. The deputy also found marijuana inside of the vehicle that was not legally packaged. Mr. Richard was arrested, taken to jail in Crookston and was booked for gross misdemeanor DWI, speeding and the marijuana packaging violation. He appeared in Court in Crookston on 09/03/24 and was released from custody with court-ordered conditions.
On the evening of 09/02/24, a Red Lake County deputy was requested to check the welfare of a woman and some children who were left without a vehicle at Riverside Park in Red Lake Falls. The woman told the deputy that her and her husband were camping there with their children. She and her husband got into an argument, and he left them there. It was determined that no crimes had been committed, and her mother was on her way to pick them all up.
On the afternoon of 09/03/24, a Red Lake Falls resident requested assistance to remove an unwanted individual from their residence. A Red Lake County deputy responded. The reporting party told the deputy the unwanted individual had left, prior to the deputy’s arrival. The deputy located the suspect and spoke with all of the individuals involved in the incident. It was discovered that Cassandra Lynn Kmecik (25) of Thief River Falls had thrown a box at her mother while they were arguing at her mother’s residence. Ms. Kmecik was cited for misdemeanor disorderly conduct.
On the morning of 09/05/24, the Red Lake County Sheriff’s Office received a report from an individual in Oklee about a dispute over ownership of a camper. A Red Lake County deputy spoke with the involved individuals, and it was determined no theft crimes had been committed and the question of ownership of the item was a civil matter.
On the afternoon of 09/05/24, the Red Lake County Sheriff’s Office received a report that a RLCC School employee was bitten by a dog at a rural Brooks residence. The owner of the dog could not produce current proof of vaccination, and they chose to have the animal euthanized . The victim sought medical attention and was treated for minor injuries.
On the evening of 09/06/24, a Red Lake Falls resident reported receiving some harassing text messages. That report remains under investigation.
On the evening of 09/06/24, Red Lake County deputies responded to a report of a disturbance near the Cozy Bar in Brooks. The deputies responded and searched the area but could not find any sign of a disturbance or any suspects. They later spoke to a witness who claimed two individuals were having a dispute inside of the bar, earlier in the evening, and they were asked to leave. It was determined the individuals who were causing the disturbance had left the scene and there was no indication that any crimes had actually occurred.
