News Release – 6/14/2024

On the morning of 06/07/24, Jason Lee Aakhus (50) of Red Lake Falls was arrested in Red Lake Falls for violating the terms of his supervised probation. He was taken to jail in Crookston and was released from custody on 06/10/24.

On the afternoon of 06/07/24, Red Lake County law enforcement officers and the Red Lake Falls Fire Department responded to a report of a vehicle on fire near the intersection of 1st St. S. and Main Ave. in Red Lake Falls. A bystander was able to extinguish the fire with a can of Red Bull prior to the Fire Department’s arrival. The car was substantially damaged by the fire that ignited in the engine compartment when the vehicle was started. The owner was advised to have a mechanic look it over before they attempted to start it again.

On the evening of 06/07/24, a Red Lake County deputy counseled three juveniles in Plummer who were harassing an individual who was trying to enjoy a campfire in their backyard.

In the early morning hours of 06/08/24, the Red Lake County Sheriff’s Office received a report of an individual sleeping and snoring loudly in a hallway at an apartment building in Red Lake Falls. A Red Lake County deputy responded and assisted an intoxicated male into their apartment.

On the afternoon of 06/08/24, a Red Lake County deputy assisted a lady, who had locked herself out of her house in Oklee.

On the afternoon of 06/08/24, the Red Lake County Sheriff’s Office received a report of an ATV crash on 165th St. SE in Plummer, near the Railroad Tracks. The report indicated there was an injured party at the scene. Red Lake County deputies, the Plummer Fire Department, Oklee Ambulance, and the Sanford Ambulance responded to that location. The Canadian Pacific Railroad was also notified to stop all trains while rescue crews worked at the crash site. One adult male was transported to the Sanford ER in Thief River Falls by the Oklee Ambulance to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries. Another male was treated for their minor injuries at the scene. The crash remains under investigation.

On the evening of 06/08/24, Red Lake County deputies, the Red Lake Falls Fire Department and the Red Lake Falls ambulance were dispatched to a report of a vehicle fire at a Gervais Township residence. The fire was extinguished, but the vehicle sustained substantial damage.

In the early morning hours of 06/09/24, while emergency crews were returning to Red Lake Falls after the vehicle fire, they observed a vehicle in ditch, along Hwy. #32 on the north end of Red Lake Falls. The vehicle was occupied by a Red Lake Falls juvenile. The driver claimed they had fallen asleep and driven into the ditch. The vehicle struck a sign and a culvert. The driver was not injured and the damage to the vehicle was minor. The vehicle was removed from the ditch and the juvenile was released to their parents.

On the afternoon of 06/11/24, the Red Lake County Sheriff’s Office received a report of an individual being harassed in Lambert Township. A Red Lake County deputy counseled and advised the reporting party.

On the evening of 06/11/24, a Red Lake County deputy observed dogs running loose in the city of Oklee. The deputy attempted to contact the dogs’ owner but was unsuccessful and the deputy was also unable to catch them. Keith Michael Delage (62) of Oklee was cited for violating the city’s ordinance by allowing his dogs to run at large.

On the evening of 06/11/24, the Red Lake County Sheriff’s Office received a report of some dogs excessively barking in the city of Brooks. The dogs’ owner was counseled and warned about allowing this nuisance.
